Problem:

The Auction:
West   North   East   South
                       pass     1♠
pass      2♠      dbl       4♠
all pass

You are East on this deal, opponents are vulnerable and you are not. Having passed initially, you decide to make a takeout double over North's 2♠. Your other alternative would have been to overcall 3. In any case, South's 4♠ ends the auction. Partner leads the 4, playing 3rd-5th leads. You play the Ace, declarer follows with the King, an obvious singleton. What do you return?
Solution:
You know that declarer is getting two discards on the Queen and Jack of Diamonds, so you have to take your tricks as soon as possible. Shifting to the ♣Q seems the obvious play, in case declarer has the ♣K. On closer observation, it must be right to switch to hearts, as declarer's heart losers are likely to go away on dummy's diamonds, while the club losers cannot go away. Your correct play therefore is a heart. Declarer wins the heart shift with the Ace, and plays a trump towards dummy. Partner does his part by rising with the Ace, and playing the Q. Declarer can discard two of his clubs on the diamonds, but still has to lose a club trick at the end.

A heart switch at trick 2 was required to defeat the contract; on any other switch, say the ♣Q, declarer will win the Ace, knock out partner's ♠A, and discard a heart on a high diamond.

Analysis:
After the opening diamond lead, Bridge Baron's double dummy analysis asserts that the heart shift is needed to defeat the contract (on this deal, a spade switch will defeat the contract too. This will allow declarer to discard a heart and a club on the winning diamonds, but the defense can play 3 rounds of trumps, leaving declarer with 2 club losers. However, a spade is clearly a silly play).
Par Contract Analysis:
The par contract on this deal is 3♠ by North-South.
